Day 1 - Iowa to Indiana

The lush green trees and grasses of Iowa turned into the green foliage and burgeoning corn fields of Illinois which turned into the same green-ness of Indiana.  More flood warnings began appearing on our weather apps as we headed east, but nothing hindering our plotted journey.  The skies were a perfect blue with wisps of fluffy white clouds.

We began the trip waiting for a train less than 20 minutes from home and sang rousing choruses of the "Ants Go Marching One By One" and "Hi, My Name is Joe," while the train cars rumbled slowly past.
Road snacks of trail mix, fruit, string cheese, and hard-boiled eggs kept the appetites at bay until we stopped at a Steak 'n Shake in Danville, IL for something a little more substantial.  A couple of fuel and rest stops in between the constant use of all our electronic devices made the first leg of the journey pretty easy.

We checked into the Hampton Inn in Greenfield, IN and the kids hit the pool while Joel and I tapped into the free WiFi.

A fairly uneventful first day, and we're still speaking to each other...so that's a bonus.  The Seven Wonders of the World - Rohne Style--Wonder #1:  I wonder if we will still be speaking to each other after Day 18?
