By midway through Ohio, the landscape was beginning to change. The flat plains of the Midwest began to dip and climb with each mile further east. The beautiful weather was holding giving us sunshine and blue skies to travel under. We began seeing signs that most Iowans don't usually see..."Falling Rock Ahead," "Steep Grade Next 13 Miles," "Runaway Truck Ramp Ahead."
Our route took us from Ohio into West Virginia and Pennsylvania before we entered my birth state of Maryland. Elevations of over 2700 feet made for continuous breathtaking scenery and ear popping fun.
We stopped at a scenic overlook rest stop and stretched our legs a bit before crossing over into Virginia. In Hagerstown we grabbed a bite to eat and then finished the last hour and half of our driving day arriving in Springfield, Virginia around 8 p.m. to see my cousin Tim's son, Ryan, play baseball. We arrived in time to see him bat and make some excellent plays in the outfield as shortstop.
Back at Tim's, we got the tour of his beautiful home in the woods and visited a bit before turning in for the night.
